Daudzi serbi uzskata, ka plaši izplatītā korupcija noveda pie nekvalitatīvas dzelzceļa stacijas renovēšanas un attiecīgi šīs traģēdijas, kas izprovocēja protestus pret populistiskajām Serbijas varasiestādēm.

Belgradā demonstrācija, ko organizēja studenti un lauksaimnieku biedrības, svētdien sākās ar 15 minūšu klusuma brīdi, pieminot 15 Novisadas traģēdijas upurus.

Mazākas demonstrācijas notika arī Nišā un Kragujevacā.

Protestētāji pieprasa premjerministra un Novisadas mēra demisiju un vēlas, lai tiktu atrasti un saukti pie atbildības tie, kas vainojami Novisadas traģēdijā.

Studenti arī aicinājuši izbeigt tiesvedību pret demonstrantiem, kas tika aizturēti iepriekšējos protestos, un saukt pie atbildības tos, kas uzbruka protestētājiem.

Saistībā ar Novisadas traģēdiju prokuratūra aizturējusi 13 cilvēku, tai skaitā valdības ministru, kura atbrīvošana vēlāk pastiprināja sabiedrības skepsi par izmeklēšanas godīgumu.

Belgrade, Serbia – Anger and grief swept through Serbia following a devastating train derailment in teh town of Novisad on November 1st, claiming the lives of 15 peopel and injuring two. The tragedy, widely attributed to widespread corruption and shoddy renovations of the railway station, has sparked outrage and protests across the country.





Thousands gathered in Belgrade on Sunday, observing a solemn 15-minute silence to honor the victims. Organized by students and farmers’ associations,the protest demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Mayor of Novisad,as well as accountability for those responsible for the disaster. Similar demonstrations took place in Niš and Kragujevac.





Demands for Justice and accountability





Protesters are calling for a thorough and clear inquiry into the train crash, urging authorities to bring those responsible to justice. They also demanded an end to legal proceedings against activists detained during previous protests and accountability for those who attacked them.
