Thunderbolts* Review: MCU Future Begins
‘Thunderbolts*’ Movie Review: A Simple Yet Powerful Step for MCU’s Future
updated June 01, 2025
Marvel’s Thunderbolts* offers a compelling narrative and marks a high point for the MCU since Avengers: Endgame. The film distinguishes itself through strong storytelling and execution, reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Thunderbolts* primarily functions as a standalone movie, focusing on Yelena Belova,Taskmaster,Ghost, and U.S. Agent. The team unites against Valentina Allegra de Fontaine after initially cleaning up her messes. Red Guardian and Bucky Barnes later join the group as they confront Sentry, also known as Bob, whose growing powers threaten global stability.

The introduction of Bob, played by Lewis Pullman, injects intrigue into the film. Pullman’s portrayal highlights Sentry’s mental health struggles, creating a deeper connection with the audience. sentry and Taskmaster both leave a lasting impression.
Sentry’s powers are formidable, establishing him as a significant on-screen presence. However, the design of Sentry’s suit drew criticism for resembling a Superman costume.
The dynamic between Bob and Yelena stands out, portraying a shared understanding of mental health challenges. Florence Pugh delivers a standout performance, complemented by strong performances from David Harbour and Sebastian Stan. Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus also shine. While geraldine Vishwanath debuts in the MCU, her role feels underdeveloped.
Thunderbolts* distinguishes itself with a character-driven plot and well-executed action sequences, setting it apart from recent Marvel projects.

The post-credits scene, filmed by the Russo Brothers on the set of Avengers: Doomsday, is substantial and teases future storylines. Clocking in at nearly three minutes, it promises significant developments for the MCU.
