Thuringia’s Coalition Crossroads: BSW Leader Sees Favorable Winds of Change
BSW Boss Katja Wolf Promises to Reflect Party’s Brand in Coalition Negotiations
After a meeting with the centre, Katja Wolf, the head of the state of BSW Thuringia, has promised to take the core of the party’s brand into account clearly in the coalition negotiations with the CDU and the SPD.
Internal Party Criticism and Coalition Talks
Katja Wolf wants to “further sharpen” the views on war and peace in the face of internal party criticism in the coalition talks. This comes after a meeting of members in Erfurt, where the exploratory paper, which was controversial within the party and which BSW had agreed with the CDU and the SPD, was discussed internally.
Coalition Negotiations and BSW’s Election Programme
The coalition negotiations starting next week are about getting as much as possible for Thuringia and as much as possible out of the BSW election programme. Regarding the controversial peace preamble, Wolf said: “The preamble has been passed in this respect.”
Unity and Coalition Agreement
The General Secretary of BSW, Christian Leye, said that they would leave the meeting in Erfurt united. “It is clear to us that we stand together as a party – even after this discussion.” After the meeting of the members, it was agreed that coalition negotiations should begin and that the coalition agreement negotiated there should bear BSW’s signature on foreign policy more clearly, but also on national policy issues.
Conditions for Government Formation
Recently, the BSW leadership around Sahra Wagenknecht had drawn up conditions for the formation of a government in Thuringia. The federal executive board insisted that the party’s foreign policy and policy positions should be identified in the coalition negotiations with the CDU and the SPD.
Formulaic Compromise and Coalition Negotiations
The Thuringian BSW had agreed on a formulaic compromise with the CDU and the SPD where the differences between the parties in dealing with Russia’s war of aggression became apparent.
