Tick Alert: Protect Yourself from Hidden Dangers During Harvest Season Farming
Tick Bite Prevention Guidelines for Farmers During Harvest Season
As harvest season approaches, health authorities are urging farmers to follow tick bite prevention guidelines to minimize the risk of contracting diseases transmitted by ticks.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and the Rural Development Administration have reported that 76% of patients with tsutsugamushi disease and severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome, which are transmitted by ticks, occur mainly in the fall.
Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome is a particular concern, with nearly 200 patients reported every year over the past three years. The mortality rate for this disease is approximately 20%.
To prevent tick bites, farmers and individuals engaging in outdoor activities are advised to wear bright-colored long-sleeved clothes, socks, and gloves. Using tick repellent and following preventive measures such as shaking out and washing clothes immediately upon returning home can also help reduce the risk of tick-borne diseases.
By taking these precautions, farmers and outdoor enthusiasts can minimize their risk of contracting tick-borne diseases and stay safe during the harvest season.
