Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a rollover car crash near his home in Jupiter Island, Florida, on March 27, 2026. The incident has drawn significant attention given Woods’ status as one of the most decorated professional golfers in history and his previous involvement in a serious single-vehicle crash in February 2021.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek confirmed the accident occurred Friday afternoon when the driver of a Land Rover attempted to overtake a pickup truck pulling a pressure cleaner trailer at high speed on a two-lane road. After the crash, the driver crawled out of the passenger door and was identified as Woods. Authorities stated Woods demonstrated signs of impairment at the scene, though they did not suspect alcohol use.

Woods blew a 0.00 on a breathalyzer test but refused a urinalysis. He was subsequently charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. He remained in custody until his release around 11 p.m. ET that evening. According to the sheriff’s department, neither party involved in the crash was injured.

Following the release of an arrest affidavit, Woods issued a statement on X saying he would seek treatment and focus on his health. The affidavit showed police found two hydrocodone pills in his pants after the crash and noted he had bloodshot and glassy eyes, extremely dilated pupils, and was sweating profusely when officers arrived.

I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.

Woods’ lawyer entered a not guilty plea to the charges. Woods said the crash happened after he looked down at his phone. He described himself as committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally.

Background and Career

Eldrick Tont Woods was born in Cypress, California, on December 30, 1975. He is the only son of Earl and Kultida Woods and has two stepbrothers and one stepsister from his father’s first marriage. Woods began playing golf at age 2, with his father serving as his first coach.

Background and Career

Woods’ first major victory came at the 1997 Masters, where he became the first Black person to win the title. He has won 82 PGA Tour events and held the number one ranking for over 8 consecutive years from 1999 to 2008. His career has been marked by both extraordinary success and significant challenges, including multiple injuries and surgeries.

Woods has won 15 major championship awards, including 5 Masters, 3 U.S. Opens, 4 PGA Championships, and 3 Open Championships. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019. His estimated net worth is $1.5 billion, derived primarily from brand deals and tournament earnings.

Personal Life

Woods married Swedish model Elin Nordegren on October 5, 2004. They have two children: daughter Sam Alexis Woods, born in 2007, and son Charlie Axel Woods, born in 2009. The couple divorced on August 23, 2010. Woods’ marital status is listed as divorced.

Multiple news sources have reported that Woods’ current partner is Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr. Reports indicate they have been dating since March 2025. Search results from People.com and other outlets have published information about their relationship following the crash incident.

Previous Health Issues

The March 2026 crash comes after a series of health challenges for Woods. He was previously involved in a single-car crash in February 2021 that resulted in serious injuries to his lower body, including several broken bones in his right leg requiring extensive surgical procedures. He suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in March 2025 and underwent back surgery in October 2025.

His appearance in the TGL indoor golf final just days before the crash marked his first return to professional golf since those injuries. The crash occurred with the Masters tournament approaching, raising questions about his participation in upcoming events.

Woods has requested privacy for his family, loved ones, and himself as he seeks treatment. The incident represents the latest in a series of incidents involving auto wrecks and prescription medications for the golfer throughout his career.
