In September 2026, the Caoa Chery Tiggo 7 reached an unprecedented milestone in the Brazilian market by simultaneously outselling both the Jeep Compass and the Toyota Corolla Cross in monthly sales, according to reporting drawing on data from UOL Carros. While the Tiggo 7 did not secure the absolute sales leadership among medium SUVs for the month, it was reported that the result illustrates the rapid expansion of Chinese automakers in a segment historically dominated by European, American, and Japanese brands.
September Sales Figures for Medium SUVs
UOL Carros detailed the sales figures for the medium SUV category in September 2026, placing the Tiggo 7 at the forefront of this competitive shift. The Jeep Compass was third with 3,867 units sold, while the BYD Song Pro followed with 3,533 exemplares. The Toyota Corolla Cross took fifth place with 3,359 units, just ahead of the Jaecoo 7 with 2,614 units in sixth.
Further down the ranking, the Geely EX5 registered 1,967 units for seventh place, and the BYD Song Plus recorded 1,929 units in eighth. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Taos—previously holding the third position in the category—dropped to eighth place with 1,739 registrations, as outlined in the figures.

Market Factors Driving the Chinese Automaker Expansion
The push by Chinese brands into Brazil began primarily with hybrid medium SUVs, allowing these manufacturers to achieve rapid success and significantly increase the number of model options available in the country. Beyond the models occupying the top 10 in the medium SUV category, the market now includes entries such as the Leapmotor C10, Omoda 7, Jetour T1 and T2, and the GAC GS4. This influx is gradually narrowing the gap in model variety between medium SUVs and compact SUVs.
It was noted that the Tiggo 7’s performance was not entirely unexpected, as the model had approached similar sales heights in 2025. A vehicle refresh carried out months prior to the September 2026 data collection helped accelerate consumer demand and strengthen its position against traditional segment leaders.
Compact SUV Sales Comparison
In contrast to the medium SUV segment, the compact SUV category maintains a larger total number of available models while seeing a more modest market share for Chinese brands due to a smaller product offering. In September, the Volkswagen T-Cross maintained its position as the best-selling compact SUV in Brazil, recording 9,339 emplacamentos.
