Tigres and Forge FC Battle to a Draw in Champions Cup First Leg
San Nicolás de los Garza, Mexico – Tigres UANL and Forge FC played to a scoreless draw in the first leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup first-round matchup on Tuesday, February 3rd. The teams will meet again on Wednesday, February 11th, at Estadio Universitario, with the winner advancing in the tournament.
The match, played in freezing weather conditions, saw both sides struggle to break the deadlock. According to reports, the game was a “rough” contest, but neither team could find the back of the net despite multiple opportunities.
This is only the second official meeting between Tigres and Forge in Concacaf competitions. Historically, the balance favors the Mexican side, with Tigres holding one win, Forge FC yet to secure a victory, and one previous match ending in a draw.
Both teams arrived at Estadio Universitario on Wednesday, February 11th, preparing for the decisive second leg. Tigres players were seen sporting new Adidas Originals gear as they arrived at the stadium, nicknamed “El Volcán.”
Estadio Universitario, located in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León, has a capacity of just over 42,000 spectators and serves as the home ground for Club Tigres. The stadium will be the site of Wednesday’s crucial match.
The officiating crew for the second leg will be led by Armando Villarreal (United States) as the first referee, with assistant referees Cory Richardson and Nicholas Uranga, both from the United States. Ekaterina Koroleva (United States) will serve as the fourth official, while Chris Penso (United States) will be on VAR duty, assisted by Tatiana Guzman (Nicaragua) as AVAR.
The second leg is scheduled to begin at 10:00 PM ET on February 10th, though other sources indicate a start time of 03:00 UTC on February 11th. The match represents a pivotal moment for both clubs as they vie for a spot in the next round of the Champions Cup. The overall score remains tied at zero, setting the stage for a potentially tense and competitive encounter at Estadio Universitario.
The winner of this tie will advance in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup. Elsewhere in the tournament, San Diego FC will face Pumas UNAM in the only Round One matchup between a Major League Soccer (MLS) and a Liga MX team.
