De vrees is dat TikTok Amerikaanse gebruikersgegevens zou doorspelen aan de Chinese overheid.⁢

Duizenden Amerikaanse gebruikers uitten de⁤ afgelopen dagen hun zorgen dat TikTok video’s verwijdert of minder ⁤zichtbaar maakt als die kritisch zijn over onder meer Trump, immigratiedienst ICE, of​ Jeffrey Epstein. Voor de Californische gouverneur‍ Gavin Newsom⁣ was het reden om een onderzoek in te‌ stellen naar het sociale medium wegens schendingen van de Californische wet ⁤– ‍specifiek op het gebied van vrije meningsuiting en⁢ politieke beïnvloeding.

Volgens TikTok is er van censuur geen sprake, liet het bedrijf dinsdag weten ‍na vragen van Amerikaanse media. TikTok stelt dat er geen regels zijn die het woord Epstein verbieden, al bevestigde het bedrijf ⁢dat er problemen​ waren met het schrijven van privéberichten. ‌Volgens het sociale medium was dat echter het gevolg van „een technische storing” bij een van TikToks Amerikaanse datacenters.
