Walz Urges Democrats: Tougher Stance Against Trump
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is advocating for a more forceful Democratic response to President Donald Trump.Speaking at the South Carolina Democratic Party convention on Saturday, Walz encouraged fellow Democrats to adopt a more aggressive approach.
Walz, who ran as the democratic vice presidential nominee with Kamala Harris in 2024, addressed his earlier description of Trump as a “wannabe dictator.” He stated that a stronger, more assertive stance is necessary.
“Maybe it’s time for us to be a little meaner, maybe it’s time for us to be a little more fierce,” Walz said, emphasizing the need to “ferociously push back.” He likened Trump to a bully, a figure he said particularly troubles him as a former teacher. Walz suggested that while one teaches a child why bullying is wrong, an adult bully like Trump requires a different response: “you bully… him back.”
The governor described Trump as “a weak, cruel man.”
Walz’s call to action comes amid broader democratic efforts to counter what they see as Trump’s overreach of executive power. Progressives, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders, are holding rallies nationwide to highlight the influence of wealthy individuals in Trump’s administration.
Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut is also exploring ways to revitalize the Democratic Party, focusing on economic populism after the economy played a significant role in the 2024 elections. Democratic leaders are actively seeking innovative strategies to regain ground in the 2026 and 2028 elections during Trump’s second term.
What’s next
The Democratic Party is expected to continue exploring new strategies and approaches to counter president Trump’s policies and regain political momentum in upcoming elections.
