Timeless Innovation: Seiko’s 1978 Masterpiece Earns Future Technological Heritage Status
Seiko Quartz Chariot Cal.5931: A Milestone in Watch Technology
The Seiko Quartz Chariot Cal.5931 has been recognized as an important material for the history of science and technology, earning its place in the “Future Technology Heritage” registry by the National Museum of Nature and Technology.
The ”Future Technology Heritage” registry was established in 2008 to identify and preserve materials that have significantly contributed to the development of science and technology. This prestigious recognition highlights Seiko’s commitment to innovation and excellence in watchmaking.
The Seiko Quartz Chariot Cal.5931 features Seiko’s groundbreaking “adaptive drive control” system, which enables quartz analog watches to be smaller, thinner, and more energy-efficient. This control system uses different types of drive pulses and switches between them to minimize power consumption, reducing the power consumption of the stepper motor by half compared to conventional models.
This achievement marks the seventh time Seiko has been recognized in the “Future Technology Heritage” registry, following previous registrations for the world’s first quartz wristwatch and a 6-digit display digital watch. The Seiko Quartz Chariot Cal.5931 will be on display at the Seiko Museum Ginza starting in October.
Seiko’s Commitment to Innovation
Seiko’s dedication to innovation and excellence in watchmaking has led to numerous breakthroughs in technology and design. The Seiko Quartz Chariot Cal.5931 is a testament to the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in watchmaking.
