Match Preview: Saudi Arabia vs. Indonesia
On November 15, 2026, Saudi Arabia’s national football team arrived at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium with high confidence for their World Cup 2026 qualifying match against Indonesia. They recently drew 0-0 with Australia, boosting their morale.
Coach Herve Renard and his team aimed to secure a win or at least a draw against Indonesia in Jakarta. However, things did not go as planned. Indonesia, led by Jay Idzes, defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0.
Saudi Arabia displayed an aggressive playing style, using high pressing to assert their game. However, Indonesia’s coach, Shin Tae-yong, anticipated this strategy. He instructed his players to avoid direct attacks through the midfield, knowing that Saudi Arabia had a strong midfield presence.
Instead, Indonesia used long passes to penetrate the Saudi defense. Early in the match, Marcelino Ferdinan almost scored when his shot hit the post.
This tactic surprised the Saudi players. Indonesia maintained their strategy, repeatedly placing the ball between two or three defenders. The match showcased Indonesia’s effective plan against a confident Saudi team.
