Timo Werner Named MLS Player of the Month

San Jose Earthquakes forward Timo Werner has been named the MLS Player of the Month for April 2026, following a dominant stretch that has propelled his team to the top of the league standings.

During the month of April, Werner recorded seven goal contributions, consisting of four goals and three assists. This performance tied him for the lead in the MLS for the month and helped the Earthquakes achieve a 5-0-0 record in April, during which the team posted a league-best plus-13 goal differential.

Historic Individual Performance

Werner established a new club milestone between April 19 and April 25, becoming the first player in San Jose Earthquakes history to record at least one goal and one assist in three consecutive games.

These contributions culminated in Werner earning MLS Player of the Matchday honors for Matchday 10. In that fixture, he scored two goals and provided one assist to lead San Jose to a 3-2 comeback victory on the road.

Since arriving at San Jose during the Primary Transfer Window, Werner has displayed significant efficiency. He has accumulated nine goal contributions—four goals and five assists—in 455 minutes of regular-season play.

Among all players this season with at least nine goal contributions, only Sam Surridge of Nashville SC has played fewer minutes, with 440. Werner’s nine contributions tie him with Houston Dynamo FC’s Guilherme for the most goal contributions by a player in their first MLS season.

The Earthquakes have leveraged Werner’s form to set several league benchmarks. San Jose is the first team in the post-shootout era, which began in 2000, to win nine of its first 10 games to start a season.

The team also became only the second club since 2000 to win each of its first five road games to begin a season, a feat previously achieved by Red Bull New York in 2022.

Through the end of April, San Jose leads the MLS in both total wins, with nine, and points per game, averaging 2.70. The club is also tied with Vancouver Whitecaps FC for the most goals scored in the league, with 25.
