Timothy West’s Generosity: Estate Includes Charity Donations

Newly released documents reveal that actor Timothy West, known for his roles in Coronation Street and EastEnders, bequeathed a important portion of his estate to various charities. West, who was married to Fawlty Towers star Prunella Scales for over 60 years, died at the age of 90 in November.
West’s will included £15,000 for The Combined Theatrical Charities Appeals Council, an organization supporting stage charities in the United Kingdom. Additionally, £10,000 was allocated to each of the Bristol old Vic and Theater Royal Trust, Southwark Cathedral, the Snipe Charitable Trust, and Médecins Sans Frontières UK.
Guide Dogs for the Blind association received £5,000 from West’s estate, which totaled £109,892 after deductions from an initial £221,425. His sister, Patricia Anne West, was left £20,000, according to the will drafted in 2020 when West resided in Wandsworth Common, London.

Scales inherited the remaining £29,892 of the estate.An amendment to the will in March 2024 indicated that West and Scales jointly provided their son, Sam, with £300,000 to assist in home renovations.
Sam West, 58, is also an actor, narrator, and theatre director. Timothy West had another son, Joseph, with Scales, and a daughter, Juliet, from his previous marriage to actress Jacqueline Boyer.
An inquest in May revealed that West had been admitted to a care facility for palliative care following a fall and a subsequent three-month hospital stay. He died on November 12, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.
Assistant coroner Ellie Oakley stated that West’s unwitnessed fall on August 11, 2024, resulted in a traumatic brain injury. She added that the cause of the fall was undetermined, and there was no evidence of foul play. West received hospital treatment for three months before being transferred to a care home on November 5, 2024.
