TIPP CITY — Authorities continue to investigate the shooting death of Ashley Flynn, a Tipp City woman killed during an apparent home invasion early Monday morning. Despite misinformation circulating online, police have stated that no suspect is currently in custody.
Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence in the 900 block of Cunningham Court around 2:30 a.m., according to the Tipp City Police Department. Upon arrival, they found Ashley Flynn deceased inside the home. Her husband and two children were also present.
Dispatch logs reveal the initial 911 call reported a break-in with the garage door open and a female victim shot, and unresponsive. The caller indicated their children were secured in bedrooms.
“Someone broke into the RP’s house, unknown if they are still there. Garage door is open,” the dispatcher relayed from the 911 call. “There was apparently a female shot in the head,” the dispatcher continued, “Is not responding currently.”
First responders confirmed only one person was injured. The husband and children were unharmed.
Investigators have been working with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to process evidence and examine potential motives. An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday, but results are still pending.
The Tipp City Police Department addressed false claims of an arrest and confession circulating in the media and online. In a statement released Wednesday, Police Chief Greg Adkins emphasized the importance of accurate information and the impact of misinformation on the grieving family and the investigation.
“The Tipp City Police Department has recently been made aware—through several media outlets and information phone calls—of claims that a suspect is in custody and has confessed in the homicide investigation involving Ashley Flynn. This information is false and was never released by the Tipp City Police Department, the City of Tipp City, or any collaborating law enforcement partners,” Chief Adkins stated.
He continued, “The release and spread of unverified information is not only untrue, but also deeply detrimental to the Flynn family and unfair to those involved in this investigation. Our community continues to grieve, and the department recognizes the fear and concern some residents may be experiencing.”
Chief Adkins assured the community that investigators believe this was an isolated incident targeted at the Flynn residence and that there is currently no indication of a broader threat to public safety.
“The investigation will continue until all possible answers can be provided to the family and the community. Information will be released as soon as possible should an arrest be made. Until that time, the department will continue to share information when appropriate and when it does not jeopardize the integrity of the investigation,” Adkins said.
Ashley Flynn was a substitute teacher at Tipp City Schools and a volleyball coach. City leaders held a moment of silence to honor her memory, recognizing the significant loss to the community.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Tipp City Police Department.
