Man Sues Mother for Throwing Away His “Attack on Titan” Comic Book Collection
A Chiayi County man has filed a lawsuit against his mother for throwing away his collection of Japanese comics “Attack on Titan”. The case can be appealed if the mother confesses to the crime.
The complaint from the Chiayi District Prosecutor’s Office stated that the 60-year-old mother, surnamed Jian, threw away 32 “Attack on Titan” comic books collected by her son in February this year due to a loss. The son discovered that some of the comic books were out of print after being dumped, leading to his outrage and decision to sue.
During police questioning, Jian’s mother confessed to the crime and expressed her willingness to reconcile. However, she did not appear in court and insisted on filing a lawsuit, leading to her prosecution for damages.
The Chiayi District Court judge considered that the relationship between the two is mother and son, but the mother should respect her son’s right to his belongings and not arbitrarily throw away things that fail to respect her son’s property rights. The mother was willing to reconcile with her son but failed to compensate him for the loss, which was deemed high.
The court recently issued a summary judgment and fined Jian’s mother NT$5,000 for the crime of damage and ordered her to do hard labor.
