Concord police announced the arrest of a 17-year-old suspect in connection with a shooting at Hartsell Park that left one teenager dead and another injured.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening shortly before 5:30 p.m. When officers responded to a reported shooting in the parking lot area of Hartsell Park off Sunderland Road SW.
Upon arrival, police found two 16-year-old boys who had been shot. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital with serious gunshot wounds.
Investigators said the suspect, identified as Yanixan Arellanes Silva, had arranged to meet the two victims to purchase an item they were selling through social media.
A brawl broke out during the meeting, and Silva fired a gun at the two teenagers.
Silva was arrested Friday and is being charged as an adult on multiple counts, including first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and failure to report a death.
