Quantum ‍Physics Meets Art: “Coexist” at TNW Conference

Updated June 14, 2025
⁣

Quantum mechanics, with its concepts like qubits, entanglement, and⁢ superposition, can seem baffling. But students from TU Delft are ⁢making these sub-atomic phenomena accessible ‍through an abstract art exhibition at TNW Conference.

Their project, Emergence Delft, merges science and art⁣ to explore quantum reality. The centerpiece, “Coexist,” is a light installation that uses color, interaction, and design ⁣to capture the elusive nature of quantum mechanics.

“Coexist” focuses on superposition, the ability of a quantum system to exist in multiple states concurrently. A qubit, the⁣ quantum version of a bit, can be both 0 and 1 at the same time. However, observation forces the ⁤qubit to collapse ⁤into a single state, a process‍ known as measurement.

The installation features a glowing white light, symbolizing superposition, surrounded by oversized polarization filters. As visitors rotate these filters, different colors emerge, illustrating how ‍observation alters perception, mirroring the principles of quantum mechanics.

Beyond‍ the quantum art exhibition, TNW Conference, held June 19-20, offers a range of activities. Attendees can test their skills at a padel court, try the mixed reality game Multiball, or sing ⁤karaoke. DataSnipper’s GenAI photo booth allows visitors to transform into AI-generated characters.

Attendees can also⁤ participate in the TNW Photo Challenge by capturing moments and sharing them on social media for a chance to win ⁢tickets to TNW Conference 2026. Challenges include‍ photographing founder Boris ‍Veldhuijzen van Zanten, taking a picture on the ferry to NDSM, and showcasing a high score at Multiball.
