Tochigi City recognized as “Women’s Baseball Town” by the All Japan Women’s Baseball Federation: Tokyo Shimbun TOKYO Web
Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture, has been recognized as a “Women’s Baseball Town” by the Japan Women’s Baseball Association, a general incorporated association, for its understanding of and contributions to the spread of women’s baseball. This is the 16th municipality in the country and the first in the prefecture to receive this recognition.
On August 24th, at the Ajek Sports Science Center in Numawada-cho, the city’s Mayor, Hideko Okawa, received a certificate from the federation’s representative director, Hiroko Yamada, and said, “I want to make the city a mecca for women’s baseball.”
In 2020, the city signed a partnership agreement with the Ajex Group, which has a women’s hardball baseball team, and the following year began co-hosting the Tochigi Sakura Cup women’s baseball tournament, building up a track record of achievements.
As a commemorative event for the certification, the Kanto Women’s Baseball Association’s official game “Venus League” will be held for three days from the 21st at Ajekku Sakura Baseball Stadium in Ohira-cho, the city. (Umemura Takeshi)
