Pope Leo XIV visited the Pope Francis Technology School in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, as part of his 11-day Apostolic Journey to Africa. The visit occurred on the final full day of his tour and one day after the first anniversary of the passing of his predecessor, Pope Francis.

The school, named in honor of Pope Francis, specializes in vocational and technological training for youth in Equatorial Guinea. During the visit, Pope Leo toured the facility and met with students developing skills in digital literacy and vocational trades, reinforcing the Church’s commitment to youth empowerment and technical education as a means of achieving social justice and integral human development.

Earlier on April 22, Pope Leo celebrated Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Mongomo. His itinerary for the day also included a scheduled visit to the Prison of Bata and a meeting with young people and families at the Bata Memorial, honoring the victims of the March 7, 2021 explosions.

Pope Leo XIV is expected to conclude his four-nation tour on Thursday, April 23, 2026, with a final Mass in the capital city of Malabo. The journey has been defined by his calls for economic justice, the ethical use of technology, and a renewed focus on the margins of society—themes central to the ministry of Pope Francis.

On April 22, 2026, Pope Leo sent a tribute to Rome describing Pope Francis as a “courageous witness” whose life represented a significant patrimony for the universal Church.
