Orthodox Christian Commemoration

April ⁤10 is observed in the Orthodox Christian tradition as the Memorial Day of the ‌martyr‌ Eustratius of Pechersk.

eustratius, born in Kyiv in the 11th century, entered monastic life at a young age. Captured by Polovtsy raiders in 1096, he was sold into slavery to a Jewish man who attempted to force him to renounce Christianity through starvation.

Eustratius refused to abandon his ⁢faith. The slave owner, in response, crucified him.

According to accounts, Eustratius proclaimed, “The Lord has now been⁤ given great grace. He‍ gave me mercy⁤ to suffer ⁢for his name ⁢on the cross in the image‍ of his suffering.”

Enraged, the slave owner pierced Eustratius with a ⁤spear, and his body ⁢was thrown into the sea. Historical records indicate that the Greek emperor, upon learning of the‍ events, ordered the punishment of those who tormented Christians, leading to the slave owner’s execution.
