Toddler Dies, Baby Survives North-South Expressway Crash

A two-year-old girl died⁢ following a car accident on ⁢the North-South Expressway ‌near Muar, Malaysia. The ‌multi-purpose‍ vehicle (MPV) crash also involved her family, including her ‌seven-month-old brother who survived. the incident occurred last Monday at KM144.9 northbound, according to Muar OCPD Asst. Comm. Raiz ‍Mukhliz Azman Aziz.

The MPV struck the family’s car from behind, causing​ it to lose control and hit a divider. The ‌toddler sustained severe head injuries⁣ and died ​Wednesday at Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah, Raiz Mukhliz‌ said.

The girl’s 33-year-old father, who was driving, suffered arm injuries, while ‍her ⁣27-year-old mother broke her leg. The infant brother escaped injury. The 33-year-old MPV driver was ‍also unhurt.

Authorities conducted alcohol and substance abuse tests on⁣ the MPV driver, which⁣ came back negative. A video showing the ‌MPV hitting the car’s rear windshield circulated on social media.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road ‍Transport ⁢Act‌ 1987. ​A conviction ⁢could result in imprisonment up to ⁤10 ‍years and a fine up to RM50,000.
