toddler’s Stubbed Toe Leads to Leukemia Diagnosis, Sensory Teddy Bear Brings comfort
Crawley, West Sussex – A routine stubbed toe turned into a life-altering experience for two-year-old Zak from Crawley, West Sussex. after his injury failed to heal, a blood test revealed a devastating diagnosis: acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
zak’s parents, Amina and Suhaib, were thrown into a whirlwind of emotions. “When he was diagnosed I felt disbelief and shock. Our whole world was turned upside down,” Amina shared. ”It’s been the hardest two years of my life.”
Within weeks, Zak began an intensive chemotherapy and steroid treatment programme at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London. The aggressive treatment, which at one point involved daily chemotherapy, took its toll, leading to hair loss.
Despite the challenges, Zak’s playful spirit remains unbroken. “You never see him upset over anything,” Amina said. “Everyone loves Zak. He’s a vrey active child who loves riding bikes, swimming and playing football. He never sits still.”

Zak’s journey is far from over. He continues to receive treatment, including monthly chemotherapy and a lumbar puncture every six months. His parents also administer medication at home as part of his treatment plan.
Through it all, a lavender-scented, heatable teddy bear provided by cancer Support UK has become a source of comfort for Zak. “He finds great comfort holding his cuddly ted when he goes to sleep and plays with it constantly,” Amina explained.
The family is now involved in a campaign to raise funds for Cancer Support UK, allowing the charity to provide more of these comforting teddy bears to children battling cancer.
