Jonathan Toews Signs with Winnipeg Jets: hometown Hero Returns
Jonathan Toews is coming home. The 37-year-old veteran forward is joining the Winnipeg Jets, giving the team a boost as they aim for the Stanley Cup. The contract can be registered with the league when free agency begins July 1.
Toews last played in the 2022-23 season, tallying 31 points (15 goals, 16 assists) in 53 games for the Chicago Blackhawks. His season was hampered by lingering COVID-19 symptoms, causing him to miss the 2023-24 campaign to focus on his health.
The Winnipeg native’s decorated career includes three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks. Toews also earned the Conn Smythe Trophy (2010) and the Selke Trophy (2013), along with six All-Star Game appearances.
