Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé Meets with Chinese Communist Party Delegation

During the Forum on Sino-African Cooperation (FOCAC) 2024, Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé met with a delegation from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) led by Mr. Wang Huning, member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Mr. Wang Huning acknowledged Togo as a “sincere friend” and praised the outstanding relations between Togo and China, which he attributed to the commitment of the highest authorities of both countries to sharing a vision of peace and unity.

He also commended the achievements made in Togo under President Gnassingbé’s leadership and the republican values it embodies. Mr. Wang Huning praised President Gnassingbé’s active diplomacy in favor of peace and stability in the sub-region and on the continent, as well as his vision in line with Chinese initiatives for development and global security.

President Gnassingbé emphasized that the partnership between Togo and China is an excellent partnership for the benefit of the people. He welcomed the establishment of the Sino-African Cooperation Forum, which he believes is beneficial to the continent despite turmoil and crises of all kinds.

According to President Gnassingbé, China can benefit Africa through dialogue, consultation, and mutual respect. He was offered an honorary dinner by the Politburo Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party as a sign of recognition for his efforts to strengthen cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Togo.

This meeting marks the latest high-level engagement between President Gnassingbé and the Chinese Communist Party, following a meeting in 2019 in Lomé on the occasion of the official dedication of the work “Let us build a community with a shared future for humanity” by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
