A planned coup d’état in Benin, scheduled for September 27, 2024, was foiled thanks to the vigilance of Ivorian intelligence services, who alerted the Beninese authorities to a suspicious bank account.

The Arrest of Oswald Homeky
On the night of September 23 to 24, 2024, former sports minister Oswald Homeky was arrested while passing six bags full of banknotes to the Commander of the Republican Guard.
The Investigation Unfolds
Initial investigations reveal that the Commander of the Republican Guard was acting on behalf of Minister Oswald Homeky and Mr. Olivier Boko, with the aim of using the armed forces to carry out a coup d’état on September 27, 2024.
A Suspicious Bank Account
On August 6, 2024, the interested parties opened a bank account in the books of NSIA BANQUE Côte d’Ivoire for the benefit of the Commander of the Republican Guard, with an initial balance of 105 million FCFA.
A Large Sum of Money
To overcome the opposition of the Commander of the Republican Guard, the perpetrators promised and presented to him, on September 24, 2024, a sum of 1.5 billion FCFA in cash, divided into 129 batches of 10 million and 42 lots of 5 million.
The Arrests
The Criminal Brigade arrested Mr. Oswald Homeky and the Commander of the Republican Guard during the delivery of the vehicle and the sum of 1.5 billion FCFA. Mr. Olivier Boko was also arrested shortly after.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation is ongoing, and the Special Prosecutor has promised to provide more information on the evolution of the procedure.
