Celebrate Diversity at LGBTQ Pride Events Across Japan

While the main Tokyo Rainbow Pride parade and festival may have concluded, opportunities to celebrate diversity and support the LGBTQ community abound throughout Japan. A variety of upcoming programs and events showcase the creativity and resilience of queer individuals and platforms across numerous artistic and professional fields. These LGBTQ events offer a chance to show solidarity and celebrate queer culture.
In Harajuku, the Queer Art Exhibition runs until June 18 at Baby the Coffee Brew Club, featuring works from 30 international queer artists. Admission is free,and attendees can vote for their favorite artist to win the Tokyo Rainbow Pride Award. Simultaneously occurring,Loneliness Books in Higashinakano hosts events June 20-22 and 27-29,including a book launch and magazine release party.
The Rainbow Reel Tokyo film festival, the 32nd Tokyo International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, screens at ShibuyaS EuroLive and Tokyo Women’s Plaza Hall on June 21-22 and July 12-13.The festival features five feature films and five shorts from various countries, many premiering in Japan. A Human Rights Conference at Shiseido Hanatsubaki Hall in Ginza on June 22 will gather LGBTQ activists, academics, and professionals to discuss social issues related to this year’s Tokyo Rainbow Pride theme.
Further afield, the aomori Rainbow Parade in Hachinohe is scheduled for June 28, and the Seisho queer Pride in Manazuru, Kanagawa Prefecture, takes place on june 29. Both events offer opportunities to participate in local Pride celebrations.
Looking ahead, several regional pride events are planned for the fall. Sapporo Rainbow Pride is set for Sept. 13-14, and Kanazawa Pride Week will occur Oct. 3-5. Hiroshima will host its first Pride parade on Oct. 11.Osaka’s rainbow Party is confirmed for Oct. 11-12,while Kyushu Rainbow Pride in Fukuoka and Okayama Rainbow Festa are both scheduled for Nov. 1-2.Kagawa Pride Parade is planned for Nov. 3, and Pride in Kyoto will take place on Nov. 9.
