Three residents of Bogotá have died in 2026 from yellow fever after traveling to endemic areas without being vaccinated, the District Health Secretariat reported.Authorities described the cases as preventable deaths and reiterated the call for individual duty and advance travel planning.
Although Bogotá is not an endemic territory, the District maintains its prevention measures active since the declaration of the health alert, with the aim of reducing the risk of imported cases.
These actions include strengthening vaccination for travelers, public health surveillance, and coordination with other departments.
The call comes amid a context of persistent national risk. Since 2024, Colombia has been on alert for yellow fever due to an active outbreak in several endemic areas that has not yet been fully controlled. For this reason, health authorities insist that people must anticipate the risk before traveling.
According to the Health Secretariat, Bogotá has fulfilled the vaccination of its population within the regular scheme and has prioritized immunization for those traveling to risk areas.

Currently, the city has more than 200 vaccination points for people between 9 months and 59 years old,a population included in the regular scheme. In addition, there are more than 40 points aimed at people with risk conditions, such as pregnant women and the elderly, as well as points enabled in airports and land transport terminals for people under 60 years of age.
