The toss decision came with the ODI series level at 1-1 after New Zealand lost the opening match by 26 runs before Bangladesh responded with a six-wicket victory in the second game, during which fast bowler Nahid Rana claimed a five-wicket haul.
Bangladesh made two changes to their lineup for the decider, bringing in pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman and left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam to replace Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain.
New Zealand, aiming for a second straight series victory in Bangladesh, recalled left-arm paceman Ben Lister into their playing XI, taking the place of Blair Tickner.
