During the long run of Smallville, Tom Welling’s Clark Kent rarely sported elaborate superhero costumes. However, in one memorable episode, he wore oliver Queen’s Green Arrow suit. Welling recently discussed his experience with the Green Arrow costume adn shared some behind-the-scenes insights.
In the Season 6 episode “Hydro,” available on hulu, Clark Kent briefly becomes green Arrow to mislead Lois lane, who suspects Oliver Queen is the emerald archer. Welling recalled his reaction to wearing the suit on the Talkville podcast, saying he found the whole thing “ridiculous.”
unlike many actors who have played Superman, Welling didn’t wear a full-fledged Superman suit for most of Smallville. His Clark Kent costumes were relatively simple,wich is why donning the Green Arrow suit felt so unusual. Despite his personal feelings, Welling acknowledged the narrative purpose of the costume swap.
Yeah I kind of remember just being like, ‘this is ridiculous! I’m so glad I don’t have to do this all the time.’ But I had to. Clark would do this to help his friend… They had to make a suit for me, I think it was like the stunt guy’s suit that they had me wear or something.
