Severe weather conditions, characterized by heavy rain and strong winds, have disrupted transportation and impacted regions across South Korea, with particularly intense conditions reported on Jeju Island on April 9, 2026.
The Korea Meteorological Administration stated that rain was expected nationwide from the morning of April 9 through the morning of April 10, 2026. The agency noted that the southern coastal regions and Jeju Island were specifically affected by heavy rainfall accompanied by gusts of wind, lightning, and thunder.
Aviation and Maritime Disruptions in Jeju
The weather conditions led to significant travel disruptions at Jeju International Airport. According to the Korea Airports Corporation, wind shear and strong wind warnings resulted in the cancellation of 82 domestic flights as of 9 a.m. On April 9, 2026. This total included 42 departures and 40 arrivals.

International travel was also affected, with six international flights canceled, consisting of three departures and three arrivals. 23 domestic flights were delayed, including seven departures and 16 arrivals.
The corporation further reported that two flights departing from Seoul and Shanghai, China, were unable to land on the island and were forced to return to their origins.
Maritime transport was similarly impacted. As of 9 a.m. On April 9, 2026, all passenger ferries traveling between the main island of Jeju and surrounding islands, including Mara Island, Gapa Island, and Udo, were suspended.
Precipitation and Wind Forecasts

- Jeju: 30 to 150 millimeters (1.18 to 5.91 inches)
- Southern coastal regions: 50 to 100 millimeters (1.97 to 3.94 inches)
