Tony Pulis believes Manchester City’s forward line could be decisive in Sunday’s Premier League title showdown against Arsenal, arguing that the team’s attacking players possess the quality to swing the match in their favour despite Arsenal’s current position at the top of the table.

Speaking ahead of the high-stakes encounter at the Etihad Stadium, Pulis highlighted the individual threat posed by City’s front three, suggesting that their ability to create and finish chances under pressure could prove pivotal in a game where margins are likely to be minimal.

“They’ve got players who can beat a man, who can get in behind, who can finish,” Pulis said. “When you’re talking about leg-beaters – guys who can take on defenders one-on-one and either shoot or pull the ball back – City have plenty of them. That’s what makes them dangerous in tight games.”

The former Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion manager pointed to the versatility and directness of City’s attacking options as a key advantage, particularly in breaking down well-organised defences like Arsenal’s, which have conceded fewer than 30 goals all season.

Pulis noted that while Arsenal have built their campaign on defensive solidity and quick transitions, City’s capacity to overload zones and create 2v1 situations in wide areas could disrupt that structure, especially if their full-backs push high to support the wingers.

“Arsenal are difficult to break down because they’re compact and disciplined,” Pulis added. “But if City get their wide players going – whether it’s Foden cutting in, Grealish driving at full-back, or even Haaland dragging centre-backs out of position – they create space for others. That’s how you unlock teams like this.”

The analysis comes as both teams enter the match with everything to play for. Arsenal lead the league by two points with a game in hand, but a win for City would reduce the gap to just one point and apply significant pressure heading into the final stretch of the season.

City have scored 78 goals in 32 league matches this season, the second-highest total in the division, with Erling Haaland leading the charge at 24 goals. Phil Foden and Jack Grealish have combined for 18 goals and 15 assists, providing both creativity and direct threat from wide areas.

Defensively, Arsenal have conceded only 27 goals in 31 games, the best record in the league, but Pulis warned that relying solely on shape may not be enough against a side capable of producing moments of individual brilliance.

“You can organise as well as you like,” he said, “but when you’ve got players who can make something out of nothing – who can take the ball, turn, and hit a target from 25 yards or slip a pass through a tiny gap – that’s when you need a bit of luck as well as good defending.”

Pulis, who has managed in the Premier League for over two decades, stressed that matches of this magnitude often come down to which team executes its attacking transitions more effectively, particularly in the final third.

“It’s not always about possession or territory,” he concluded. “Sometimes it’s about who takes their chance when it comes. And if City’s leg-beaters are on form, they’ll have more than enough of those moments to win the game.”
