Tool Teases New Music, Reflects on Black Sabbath’s Legacy
Los Angeles, CA – Tool fans, rejoice! Maynard James Keenan and Adam Jones have offered a glimmer of hope for new material from the progressive metal giants. In a recent interview on the Loudwire Nights podcast, the duo discussed their future plans, hinting at a potential return to the studio.
“Writing, I guess,” Keenan responded when asked about Tool’s plans for the coming year. Jones echoed the sentiment, adding, “We want to get another record out and play, do what we do. The three of us have been jamming… I think we’re going to dive deep soon.”
while Jones clarified that the “writing process has [always] started,” he indicated a more focused effort is on the horizon. He even mentioned a riff he was playing that Keenan likened to Black Sabbath, suggesting it could perhaps evolve into a future Tool song. “I’ll probably bug those guys again about trying to turn that into a future Tool song,” Jones said. “I’ve got lots of riffs,we put them together,tear them apart and try to make something that we’re all into.”
The interview also touched on Tool’s deep connection to Black Sabbath, especially in light of the band’s recent farewell show, ‘Back To The Beginning’ in Birmingham this past July. Tool had the honor of performing a cover of Sabbath’s iconic ”Hand Of Doom” from their ‘Paranoid’ album.
“It was very devastating,” Jones said, reflecting on the end of Black Sabbath. He recalled his childhood memories of hearing Black Sabbath while skateboarding and the surreal experience of later playing OzzFest and getting to know the Osbourne family.
