Debating the top College Football Stadiums in the West

Rankings of the top college football stadiums are subjective, but that doesn’t stop the debate. SuperWest Sports recently presented its take on the best CFB venues in the West, sparking lively discussion.
The sports outlet featured a back-and-forth between two writers, each presenting their ranking of the top venues and questioning the other’s choices. The exercise, dubbed “Serious fun,” highlighted the unique qualities that make each stadium special.
Nick bartlett’s top three included Washington’s Husky Stadium, Oregon’s Autzen Stadium, and BYU’s LaVell Edwards Stadium. Stephen Vilardo, meanwhile, took a different approach, valuing history and atmosphere over newness and amenities.
One point of contention was Allegiant Stadium, the $2 billion home of the UNLV Rebels and the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. Bartlett questioned Vilardo’s decision to rank it last.
“How do you have a nearly $2 billion NFL stadium last on your list?” Bartlett asked. “Or is that exactly why?”
Vilardo explained that the stadium’s sterile, indoor environment detracted from the college football experience. “It is indeed just a sterile indoor building without any juice,” he said.
The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., also drew discussion. Bartlett was surprised to see it in Vilardo’s top five.
“I’m surprised to see the Rose Bowl in the No. 5 spot,” Bartlett said. “How come you put it in your top five?”
Vilardo cited the stadium’s iconic status and history.”It is an iconic and historic stadium!” he said, adding that the sunsetting view with the San Gabriel mountains in the background is “a thing of beauty.”
