[서울=뉴시스]Intern Reporter Hwang So-jeong = Model and broadcaster Han Hye-jin advised that people should avoid kimchi while on a diet.
On the 29th, a video titled ‘Diet-destroying menu by Han Hye Jin: Review of 10 new ramen products | Ramen mukbang, convenience store ramen review, Jjapaguri, Shin Ramyun, Yukgaejang bowl noodles’ was uploaded on the YouTube channel ‘Han Hye Jin’.
In the video, Han Hye-jin introduces the ramen piled on the table as an item that can torment her, saying, “I think I’ll eat ramen today. I have a 25th anniversary pictorial shoot in a week, so what do you mean ramen?”
When the production team emphasized that it was diet ramen, Han Hye-jin said, “Where in the world is there diet ramen?” and “That’s the same as a hot iced Americano.”
He then confessed, “I’ve been starving since last night because of this item,” and “I’m so hungry.”
Han Hye-jin, who was tasting various types of cup ramen, said, “They don’t even give you kimchi,” and advised, “If you start a diet, you should start by getting rid of kimchi.”
Regarding diet ramen, he pointed out, “What’s the point of zero ramen? Isn’t it high in calories?” and “What’s the point of low calories? It’s incredibly high in sodium.”
The reason Han Hye-jin was wary of kimchi while on a diet was because of the sodium content.
He emphasized, “Gaining weight is the result of eating food over a long period of time,” and “Eating a lot of sodium doesn’t make you gain weight, but if you eat one meal, your body and face will completely change the next day.”
Kimchi is a salted food, so it is high in sodium. A moderate amount of sodium is necessary to maintain nerve and muscle function, but if it is excessive, water metabolism in the body does not proceed smoothly, which can cause swelling.
Additionally, foods high in sodium can increase the speed of digestion in the gastrointestinal tract, which can make you feel hungry and stimulate your appetite, leading to overeating.
Just one pack of ramen contains 1600mg of sodium, which is 70-80% of the recommended daily sodium intake, while kimchi usually contains 650mg of sodium per 100g. If you eat kimchi with ramen, you will easily exceed the recommended daily sodium intake (2000mg).
Therefore, to control sodium intake, eat only 40 to 60 grams of kimchi per meal. If you suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, gastritis, etc., you need to limit your intake to less than 40 grams per meal.
