Fantasy Basketball: Player Performances After One Month

After one month of the NBA season, we can evaluate player performances compared to their fantasy basketball projections. Below are standout players, including those who exceeded expectations and those who underperformed.

Surprises

LaMelo Ball, PG, Charlotte Hornets: Ball has surprised many by averaging over 30 points per game. He showed much more scoring ability than expected, exceeding the predictions of his all-around game.

Jared McCain, SG, Philadelphia 76ers: McCain has emerged as a top Rookie of the Year candidate. He transformed his game from a shaky start to a strong performance early this season.

Jakob Poeltl, C, Toronto Raptors: Poeltl averaged 40 fantasy points per game, marking a significant increase from last season. He has become a crucial player for the Raptors.

Jalen Williams, SF/PF/C, Oklahoma City Thunder: Williams is quickly becoming an All-Star caliber player. His offensive skills and overall production have exceeded preseason expectations.

Buddy Hield, SG/SF, Golden State Warriors: Hield has been a key contributor as the main bench scorer, providing points and three-pointers effectively throughout the season.

Dyson Daniels, PG/SG, Atlanta Hawks: Daniels has played at a third-round fantasy value, contributing significantly across multiple stats, including 3.2 steals per game.

Disappointments

Tyrese Haliburton, PG/SG, Indiana Pacers: Haliburton’s shooting has dropped to 37.9%, below his career averages. His assist totals are the lowest since joining the Pacers, raising concerns about his performance.

Joel Embiid, C, Philadelphia 76ers: Injuries have limited Embiid to just four games. He averages only 31 fantasy points, far below expectations for a top draft pick.

Desmond Bane, SG/SF, Memphis Grizzlies: After a promising start, Bane’s performance has declined. He has struggled to find his scoring groove amidst team changes and prior injuries.

Jamal Murray, PG, Denver Nuggets: Murray averages 17.6 points per game, lacking his expected scoring and playmaking abilities alongside Nikola Jokic.

Klay Thompson, SG/SF, Dallas Mavericks: Thompson’s shooting has dropped to 38%, leading to disappointing averages. His value has fallen significantly in fantasy leagues.
