Norman Jr.Defends WBO Welterweight Title Against sasaki in Tokyo

Brian Norman Jr., the reigning WBO welterweight champion, is set to face Jin Sasaki in a Top Rank Boxing on ESPN event Thursday. The fight will take place at Ota City General Gymnasium in Tokyo.
Norman, 24, of Decatur, Ga., holds an undefeated record of 27-0 with 21 knockouts. This marks his second title defense. He secured a TKO victory against derrieck Cuevas on March 29 to retain his belt,after initially claiming the interim WBO title by defeating Giovani Santillan in May 2024. Norman’s status shifted after Terence crawford moved to junior middleweight.
Sasaki, 23, boasts a record of 19-1-1 with 17 KOs. He is currently on a nine-fight unbeaten streak as transitioning to the welterweight division. His last fight was a unanimous decision win against Shoki Sakai in January, marking his first 12-round fight.
The co-feature will showcase Cristian Araneta (25-2, 20 KOs) against Thanongsak Simsri (38-1, 34 kos) for the vacant IBF junior flyweight title. The Top Rank Boxing card also includes Sora Tanaka (3-0, 3 KOs) versus Takeru Kobata (14-7-1, 6 KOs) for the vacant OPBF title in a 12-round welterweight match.
