Business travel in the United States saw significant shifts in 2024, with major cities across the country experiencing varying levels of growth and demand, according to a new report from FCM Travel. The corporate travel management company released its annual list of top destinations for business travel, highlighting key trends in domestic and international travel patterns for the year.
Top U.S. Cities for Business Travel in 2024
The FCM Travel report, based on an analysis of flight bookings made throughout 2024, identified the top five U.S. Cities for business travel as New York, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, and Washington, D.C. These cities remained consistent hubs for corporate travel, reflecting their roles as major economic and financial centers.
Boston, in particular, stood out as a key destination, ranking third overall. The city’s strong presence in sectors such as biotechnology, finance, and education contributed to its high volume of business travel. Other cities in the broader ranking included Atlanta, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and Miami, though their exact positions were not specified in the report.
Regional Growth Trends
The report also highlighted notable growth in business travel to cities in the South, and West. Orlando led this trend with a 10.8% increase in flight bookings during the second half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Other cities experiencing significant year-over-year growth included Charlotte (+9%), Nashville (+8.1%), Denver (+5%), and Houston (+4.2%).

Philadelphia and Cincinnati also saw substantial growth in the latter half of 2024, with increases of 4.8% and 4.3%, respectively, when compared to the first half of the year. These figures suggest a rebound in business travel demand, particularly in cities with diverse economic bases.
International Business Travel Destinations
On the international front, FCM Travel’s data revealed the top five destinations for U.S. Business travelers in 2024: London, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Singapore. These cities serve as global financial and commercial hubs, attracting corporate travelers from across the United States.
Industry Outlook and Recovery
Billy McDonough, FCM President for the Americas, commented on the findings, noting the resurgence of business travel in 2024. “It’s been an exciting year for business travel, as more and more companies have embraced the return to the road,” McDonough said. “In major markets around the country, we have seen a resurgence in travel, especially in cities with robust and diverse business communities. The growing enthusiasm for business travel has been evident throughout the year. And with traveler confidence on the rise and increased opportunities for growth in cities all across the U.S., I expect that the demand for travel will carry through into next year.”
The report underscores the ongoing recovery of the business travel sector, which had been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The data suggests that corporate travel is not only rebounding but also expanding into new markets, particularly in the Southern and Western regions of the United States.
Methodology and Scope
FCM Travel’s findings are based on an analysis of total flight bookings made by its clients throughout 2024. The company serves thousands of national and multinational organizations, including Fortune and FTSE 100 companies, across more than 90 countries. This broad client base provides a comprehensive view of business travel trends, making the report a reliable indicator of corporate travel activity.

While the report focuses on U.S. Business travel, it also reflects broader global trends, particularly in international destinations that remain critical for cross-border commerce and collaboration.
Implications for 2025
The trends identified in the FCM Travel report suggest that business travel will continue to grow in 2025, with cities that offer strong economic opportunities and infrastructure likely to see sustained demand. The report’s findings may also influence corporate travel policies, as companies assess which destinations offer the best return on investment for in-person meetings, conferences, and client engagements.
For cities like Boston, which already ranks among the top destinations, the report reinforces its status as a critical hub for business travel. Meanwhile, emerging cities such as Orlando and Nashville may attract increased attention from corporate travelers seeking new opportunities in growing markets.
