LAS VEGAS – Ilia Topuria delivered on his promise, defeating Charles Oliveira by knockout in the second round to seize the vacant UFC lightweight championship at UFC 317 on Saturday. A powerful combination ended the fight at 2:27 of the second round.
The victory establishes Topuria,28,as the first undefeated two-division champion in UFC history and places him third in the pound-for-pound rankings. Representing both Georgia and Spain, Topuria now holds a record of 17-0.
Following the fight, Topuria faced off with England’s Paddy Pimblett, hinting at a future title defense. Oliveira,35,entered the fight as the underdog and now holds a record of 35-11-0.
In the co-main event, Alexandre Pantoja successfully defended his flyweight title against Kai-Kara France. Pantoja secured the win with a rear-naked choke at 1:55 of the third round.
