Torbjørn Bongo, a⁢ prominent figure in the Norwegian Officers’ and Specialists’ Association (NOF) and a county⁢ council representative for the Labor Party, has died. He was 62 years old. Bongo was deeply ⁣respected for his dedication to the welfare of ⁣Armed Forces members, particularly during a period of significant ⁤restructuring and modernization.

Dedicated to His Work Until the⁢ End

Bongo, originally from Alta, had been a resident of Tromsø and served as a county council representative for the Labor⁢ Party ⁣since 2011. He was actively⁢ engaged in his work with ⁢NOF until very recently.

Torgrim‍ Halvari, press and information manager at NOF and editor of the publication Commander, told iFinnmark that Bongo was working as late as Wednesday, october 2, 2024. ‍Halvari had been Bongo’s colleague as 2019.

“We knew Bongo was seriously ill as February this year,⁤ but no one expected it to go so ‍fast. Torbjørn was at work until the last,” Halvari stated.

A Committed Colleague and Advocate

Halvari described Bongo as a pleasant ⁤colleague and a deeply committed individual. He consistently prioritized⁢ the needs of the union’s members, the defense sector, and ‍the personnel‍ he represented.

“He was simply a⁤ nice guy who gave everything to the union,the defense,and⁤ the members.⁢ He was engaged to the last, was one in negotiations and had steel control at most. We were in ‍contact with him most recently yesterday.This is a great loss⁢ for⁢ the organization and the⁣ union as well,” Halvari said.
