Toronto FC Bolsters Attack with Brazilian Winger Thiago Andrade
Toronto, ON - Toronto FC has acquired Brazilian forward Thiago Andrade in a trade with San Diego FC, bolstering their attacking options for the 2025 MLS season. In exchange, TFC sent San Diego their natural first-round pick (ninth overall) in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft and could send up to an additional $250,000 in conditional General allocation Money (GAM) in future years based on performance. San Diego also retains a percentage of a future transfer fee if Andrade is sold out of MLS by Toronto.
“We are happy to add thiago to TFC for the upcoming 2025 season,” said Toronto FC General manager Jason Hernandez. “His ability to combine pace and relentless runs to threaten the depth behind defenses will be a welcomed addition to our group. We look forward to working with Thiago and welcoming him to our city.”
Andrade, 24, joins Toronto FC after a successful stint with New York City FC, where he made 71 appearances across all competitions from 2021 to 2024, scoring 12 goals and registering six assists. He was instrumental in NYCFC’s 2021 MLS Cup victory and their 2022 Campeones Cup triumph.
Known for his speed and creativity on the wing, Andrade made his MLS debut for NYCFC against the New England Revolution on June 19, 2021, scoring his first goal for the club in the same match.
Prior to joining Toronto FC, Andrade spent time on loan with Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense, competing in the prestigious Copa Libertadores, and Chinese Super League side Shenzhen Peng City FC.
Andrade began his professional career with EC Bahia in Brazil after developing in the fluminense academy and spending time with Portimonense Sporting Clube in Portugal.

The deal could possibly see toronto sending up to an additional $250,000 in conditional General Allocation Money (GAM) to San Diego FC depending on Andrade’s future performances. Furthermore, San Diego will retain a percentage of Andrade’s transfer fee should Toronto FC decide to sell him to a club outside of MLS.
