Toronto Jewish School Targeted in Third Shooting This Year
North York, Ontario – A Jewish girls elementary school in North York has been shot at for the third time in 2024, prompting a hate crime investigation by Toronto police.
Officers responded to Bais Chaya Mushka Girls Elementary School around 2:33 a.m. Friday after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered evidence of a firearm discharge. thankfully, no injuries were reported as the school was empty at the time.The Toronto Police ServiceS hate crime unit and the gun and gang task force are both actively investigating the incident. Superintendent Paul MacIntyre is scheduled to provide further details at a news conference later today.
This latest shooting follows two previous incidents at the same school. In October, shots were fired on Yom kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. A similar incident occured in May. Both previous shootings also took place in the early morning hours when the school was unoccupied.
In connection with the October shooting, a 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were arrested and charged.

Thankfully, no injuries occurred as the school was empty at the time. nevertheless, the incident has sent shockwaves through the community and sparked a full-scale investigation by the Toronto Police Service. Both the hate crime unit and the gun and gang task force are actively involved in the case.
