The Inaugural Awards

On September 18, 2024, Michelin guide announced its first-ever star ratings for restaurants⁣ in the Toronto region, marking a notable moment for Canada’s culinary scene. The awards recognise exceptional quality, mastery of technique, and consistency across a range of dining experiences.

A total of 13 restaurants ⁢received stars.Seven restaurants were awarded one star, four ⁣received two stars, and two were honored with the highest distinction of three stars.

Three-Star Excellence

Onyl two restaurants ⁤achieved the coveted three-star rating: Sushi shizawa, celebrated for its refined Edomae-style ‍sushi, and Alo, known for its modern Canadian tasting menus. A three-star designation signifies “exceptional cuisine, worth a ⁣special journey.”

Two-Star Recognition

Four restaurants earned two stars, indicating “excellent cuisine, worth a detour.” Thes include Edulis, a farm-to-table restaurant focusing on foraged ingredients; Français, offering classic French cuisine; Yuksei, a modern Japanese restaurant; and Don⁣ Alfonso 1890 Toronto, ⁢an Italian fine-dining⁤ establishment.

One-Star Winners

The seven restaurants awarded one star – signifying “a very good restaurant in its category” – are: Byblos, serving eastern Mediterranean cuisine; ⁣ Douce France, a French bistro; Ivy, offering contemporary Canadian fare; Kinka Izakaya, ‍a Japanese‍ izakaya; ⁣ Maman, a French-inspired bakery and restaurant; Parlour, a modern Italian restaurant; and Souvlaki⁣ Bar, specializing in Greek souvlaki.
