Total Solar Eclipse: Longest in a Century – Date & Timing

Total Solar Eclipse: Longest in a Century – Date & Timing

January 19, 2026 Dr. Jennifer Chen Health

Jakarta, indonesia – A total solar‍ eclipse, predicted to be one ‍of the most spectacular events of the century, will occur on August 2,2027. Astronomers say ‍this eclipse will be ‍exceptionally long and won’t⁢ be ‍replicated in ‍the foreseeable future.

The eclipse is expected to last 6 minutes and 23 seconds at its ⁢peak - the⁢ longest total solar eclipse in⁢ 30 years. This duration is close to the maximum possible totality observable on Earth, allowing ‌observers to see the sun’s corona without special‍ equipment during the brief period of darkness.

For comparison, the April‌ 2024 eclipse reached a peak duration of only 4 minutes and 28 seconds.

The phenomenon will draw attention from ⁢astronomers and sky-watching enthusiasts ⁤worldwide.
