The federation of merchants and artisans Shop In Dijon, with support from the City of Dijon, has launched the second edition of its ecological initiative to collect and reuse tote bags. The operation, titled Tote bags, donnez-leur une seconde vie !, runs from April 8 to April 29, 2026.

The campaign encourages residents to donate tote bags that are in general good condition, regardless of their design or brand. This effort aims to prevent fabric bags—which are intended to reduce plastic waste—from accumulating unused in household cupboards.

Process and Redistribution

Collected bags will undergo a process of being washed and refurbished if necessary. To signify their recycled status, Shop In Dijon and participating merchants will mark the bags using a textile stamp.

Once processed, these bags will be put back into circulation during December. The goal is to provide an eco-friendly alternative to the high volume of shopping bags typically used during the holiday season.

Environmental Goals and Local Impact

The initiative is designed to promote a circular economy by transforming waste into usable resources while supporting local proximity commerce. By making recycling an accessible habit, Shop In Dijon seeks to sensitize the public toward waste reduction and more sustainable consumption patterns.

Environmental Goals and Local Impact

This 2026 campaign seeks to surpass the results of the inaugural 2025 event, during which 420 tote bags were collected.

Participation and Drop-off Locations

Residents can deposit their bags at the Shop In Dijon agency or at several participating partner boutiques across the city. The list of participating locations includes:

  • Chapellerie Bruyas: 65 rue des Godrans
