Tottenham midfielder Xavi Simons has enrolled in Harvard University’s Crossover into Business programme while continuing his recovery from a long-term anterior cruciate ligament rupture. The 23-year-old Netherlands playmaker has been sidelined since April, an injury that forced him to miss the World Cup.
Simons Joins Harvard Enterprise Management Programme
The online course pairs professional athletes with Harvard MBA students to mentor them through practical case studies and enterprise management, developing the commercial skills of sports competitors. To advance his physical rehabilitation and visit the university’s Boston campus, Simons made a recent trip to the United States.
I’m going back to school. During my recovery, I’ve been trying to use my time in the best way possible. Football is still my main focus, but I also want to keep learning and improving away from the pitch.

Simons added that he has always been interested in more than just football and wants to understand the business side of the game better while learning from people in different industries.
Previous Athletes and Footballers at Harvard
Previous participants on the Crossover into Business programme have included players from the NBA, NFL, and tennis, such as former world number one and two-time major champion Victoria Azarenka. Following his omission from France’s World Cup squad, Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga completed a brief educational programme at Harvard in June focusing on the business of entertainment, media, and sports. In 2014 following his retirement, former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson accepted a long-term teaching position at the university.

Simons Prioritizes Return to Competitive Action
Simons stressed that returning to competitive action remains his primary focus throughout the educational pursuit. Getting back on the pitch is his number one priority, while using the recovery period to invest in himself beyond football.
