Tottenham Hotspur Women have parted ways with manager Robert Vilahamn. The decision comes on the heels of a tough season, compounded by the recent dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, the men’s first-team manager.
Vilahamn’s tenure, which began in July 2023, saw initial success. In his first season, the team secured sixth place in the Women’s Super League (WSL) and reached the Women’s FA Cup final. A highlight was their first home WSL victory over Arsenal in december 2023.
Though, the recent season proved challenging. Tottenham exited the Women’s FA Cup in the fourth round and finished 11th in the WSL, enduring a 10-match winless streak to end the campaign near the bottom of the league.
Following a post-season review, the club decided to relieve Vilahamn of his duties.Andy Rogers,Tottenham Hotspur Women’s managing director, said the club is ready for a new manager to take on the role.
“There have been some special moments during Robert’s tenure, including reaching the FA Cup final for the first time. However, results and performances this season have not been to the level we would expect and now is the right time to make a change. We should like to thank Robert for his professionalism and efforts over the past two seasons, and we wish him well for the future,” Rogers said.
What’s next
Tottenham Hotspur Women will now begin the search for a new manager to lead the team in the upcoming season, aiming to improve their performance in the WSL and other competitions. The role of the new manager will be crucial in reshaping the team’s strategy and performance. The club will be looking for someone who can bring fresh ideas and a winning mentality to the squad, hoping to climb higher in the league standings and achieve greater success in the future.
