sparta Prague Advances to Conference League Despite Loss,Captain Haraslín Praises Team Effort
RIGA – Sparta Prague secured its place in the Conference League main phase thursday, overcoming Latvian side Riga FC despite a narrow 1-0 defeat. The loss ended Sparta’s impressive nine-match winning streak across European and domestic competitions, but the team’s earlier 2-0 home victory proved decisive.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Sparta captain Lukáš Haraslín emphasized the significance of achieving their pre-season objective. “We advanced where we wanted, and we achieved the goal we set before the season,” Haraslín stated. “We all wanted it today. We knew it would be a tough match. In the first match we saw their quality, and we knew thay would be even stronger at home.”
Haraslín,a Slovakian international, acknowledged the challenge posed by Riga FC,managed by fellow countryman Adrián Guľa. “Before the start of the double match, we knew it would be the hardest match we were waiting for,” he explained. “I knew they would like to play a nice football under the coach ball as it is indeed his domain, wherever he works. It would be difficult.” Sparta had previously navigated past Kazakhstan’s Aktobe and Armenia’s Ararat to reach this stage. While Sparta maintained their aggregate lead, a late opportunity for Riga’s Marko Redža threatened to force extra time. “Of course you are nervous,” Haraslín admitted. “But I also had a chance, they blocked it. Albion (Rrahmani) had another chance, and the goalkeeper did a great intervention.”
Riga eventually broke the deadlock in the 68th minute through Iga Siqueira. Haraslín conceded, “Maybe we helped them a little after our mistake. I couldn’t go back, and I don’t want to say that we were relieved in the second half, but our strength has been weak. In the last days and weeks, there has been a lot.”
Despite the setback,Haraslín remained upbeat. “but we kept your head cool, most importantly. Of course,we regret that we have finished our winning series, because every victory moves you forward. But also every loss, and this one has moved us to the Conference League,” he said.
haraslín downplayed his own recent form, prioritizing the team’s overall success. “if the team is doing well, I’m for it.One player can take a good form now, but in a few weeks it may be someone else. It is indeed critically important for me to play and help the team by being on the pitch. Maybe sometimes I have to do dirty work,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Haraslín expressed the need for rest and recovery after a demanding schedule. “It’s challenging. Especially because we have flown many kilometers in Europe in recent weeks, and it’s
