Kasia Niewiadoma is determined to fight for a podium spot on teh final stage of what has been described as the most challenging Tour de France Femmes route to date. The Polish rider, known for her attacking style, remains motivated to secure a top-three finish for the fourth consecutive year, despite the immense physical and mental toll of the race.
The reality of Stage Racing vs. Training
Niewiadoma highlighted the stark contrast between the controlled surroundings of training and the unpredictable nature of professional stage racing. “You go out there on your training ride and do your 30 or 40 minute efforts, and as you come from freshness it’s different to when you do a stage race,” she explained. The key difference, she elaborated, lies in the uncontrollable variables that substantially impact recovery.
“You have to consider uncontrollable factors, like the different travel times, the time you go to bed, the bed you sleep in,” Niewiadoma stated. “There are manny variables that actually affect your recovery. You just have to accept things that you can’t control, and in training everything is perfectly organized.” This acknowledgment of external factors underscores the resilience required to perform at the highest level in a multi-day event.
A Final Push for Podium Glory
As the peloton heads into stage 9, the final day of this demanding race, Niewiadoma is setting her sights firmly on the podium. “I see chances of still getting on the podium, and that is something that I really want to pursue,” she said, her determination evident. “It still motivates me.”
While the coveted yellow jersey is now out of reach, Niewiadoma believes a podium finish is still a realistic goal. “I know the yellow jersey is out of reach, but there are many teams that are motivated to do something, and we hope to get that podium spot.”
Targeting a Key Rival
niewiadoma specifically identified second-placed Sarah Gigante as a potential target, recognizing the tactical opportunities that the final stage might present. “I’m making more that maybe [second-placed Sarah] Gigante might drop because there are some technical descents, and it’s not that we finish on top of the climb,” she explained.
Despite acknowledging the strength of Gigante’s team,AG Insurance-Soudal,Niewiadoma remains optimistic.”her team [AG Insurance-Soudal] is super strong, and they’ve proven so many times that they are around her, shepherding her and bringing her up the front, but I do believe there is still a chance.” This belief in her own capabilities and the potential for race dynamics to shift is a testament to her fighting spirit.
The final stage promises to be a thrilling conclusion, with Niewiadoma poised to leave it all on the road in pursuit of a hard-earned podium finish.
