The Olympic champion showcased her amazing strength and tactical⁣ prowess on Saturday’s penultimate stage ⁢of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, launching a decisive‍ solo attack with 5km remaining to claim ‍a commanding victory and solidify her grip on the yellow jersey.

A Climber’s Triumph: ferrand-Prévot’s ⁤Solo Effort Seals Stage win

The stage was set⁣ for a fierce battle ⁢on the climbs, and Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a ⁣Bike) delivered a performance that will be etched ‍in the annals of cycling history. Going solo with a important distance still to cover, Vos powered her way to the summit, leaving her rivals in her wake. Her incredible ‍solo effort saw her cross the⁢ finish line a remarkable 1 minute and 45 seconds ahead of second-placed Gaia Realini (Lidl-Trek), with Niamh Fisher-Black (Lidl-Trek)‌ a further 30 seconds back in third.

“It⁤ was so painful, the last kilometer,” Vos admitted after the stage, her voice still laced with the⁢ exertion of her epic ride. “also because I wanted to have⁢ a gap as big‍ as possible‌ for tomorrow. I also tried to enjoy, but until ‍the finish line is crossed,⁤ it is indeed not over yet. ⁣So I just wanted to go as fast as possible to the finish line.”

The Olympic MTB champion’s dominance was evident as ‍she extended her advantage‍ over the other general classification contenders. ⁣Vollering and Kastelijn (Fenix-Deceuninck) finished a substantial 3 minutes and 3 seconds behind Vos, ⁤with Cédrine Kerbaol (EF-Education-Oatly) at 3 minutes and 18 seconds, and⁤ Dominika Włodarczyk (UAE Team ADQ) at 3 minutes and‌ 22 seconds.

Shifting Fortunes and Tactical Battles in the Peloton

The stage was not without its drama‍ and shifting fortunes.Overnight leader Kim Le Court (AG Insurance-Soudal) experienced a significant setback when she crashed on a descent approximately 60km from the finish. In ⁣a move that drew some controversy, the Visma-Lease a bike and FDJ-suez teams then considerably⁢ increased the pace, seemingly to capitalize on Le court’s misfortune.

Gaia Realini, who had been distanced on the same descent, managed ⁣to rejoin the ⁢main group. However, as ⁣the pace eventually dropped, Le Court was also able to bridge back to the peloton. Le Court, showing resilience, then worked to set ⁣the pace for⁢ Realini on the final climb, ultimately finishing 17th on the stage, over nine⁢ minutes behind Vos.

Defending champion Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM-Zondacrypto) initially appeared strong on the lower slopes, with Annemiek van Vleuten (movistar Team) struggling. Though, the dynamics‌ shifted dramatically towards the end ⁤of the stage. Niewiadoma, who had been looking poised ‍to challenge, ultimately finished 3 minutes and 26 seconds behind Vos, indicating a tough day for the Polish rider.

Vos Poised for Overall Victory Ahead of Final Stage

With her ‌commanding performance on Saturday, Vos has established a ⁢significant lead heading into sunday’s final stage of the Tour de France Femmes. She now holds a 2 minute and 37 second buffer over Realini in the general classification, and a 3 minute and 18 second advantage over Vollering. The final stage, another challenging day of climbing, promises to be a fitting ⁤conclusion to what has been a thrilling and demanding race.

Vos’s ⁤ability to execute such a⁣ powerful solo attack, coupled with her strategic awareness and determination, underscores her status as one ⁣of the sport’s most ⁢formidable athletes. The cycling world eagerly awaits the final showdown, but all signs point towards a historic victory for the ‍Olympic champion.
