Coralie Le Court, teammate to Alison Jackson, sprinted to victory in the opening stage of the Tour of Britain Women, a 81.5-kilometer race through North Yorkshire that began in Dalby Forest and concluded in Redcar. The Tour of Britain Women stage featured two significant climbs at Blakey Ridge and Langburn’s Bank.
Le Court launched her attack at the base of Langburn’s Bank, with Faulkner giving chase. The peloton fractured behind the leading pair. FDJ-Suez and Movistar spearheaded the pursuit from a diminished group, trailing by 34 seconds with 28 kilometers remaining.
Faulkner nearly crashed with about 15 kilometers left, misjudging a corner, but narrowly avoided a traffic island. Le court paused for Faulkner to recover, and they continued their breakaway. Le Court ultimately won the sprint to secure the stage victory and claim the leader’s jersey in the women’s cycling event.
The cycling tour continues Friday with a 114.3-kilometer stage from Hartlepool to Saltburn-by-the-sea.
